Revd Donneta Thomas

Revd. Donneta Thomas, is a Distinctive Deacon in the Church of England, based in the North East. Donneta describes her passion as seeing young lives transformed through the love of Christ as we pioneer and develop children’s ministry.

Donneta says “I am deeply committed to leading children, youth, and their families to Christ and to the Church’s vision to ‘proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ afresh in each generation.’

The breadth of traditions the Church offers means we can seek innovative ways to reach out with the love of God, so children grow in discipleship and faith in a way that is right for them. My experience as a Children and Families Minister has enabled me to work with children, youth, and their families in church, schools, and the community. I also work to enable and resource others in ministry through prayer, discernment and strategic planning. Prior to this ministry, my work in education focused on supporting children with Special Educational Needs, and Behavioural, Emotional, and Social Difficulties. Through mutual encouragement, equipping, and sharing our resources and expertise, we can build up leaders of all ages who reach out in their own communities, build relationships, and grow in faith. I believe that if we work together, recognising the gifts in those around us, we will grow a church that is younger and more diverse. Fostering a holistic approach to mission and ministry, where all children are welcomed and valued, will support the recognition of children in our churches and ensure their sense of
belonging.

I pray that all who are called to partner with the Holy Spirit in children’s ministry experience the great joy, as I have, of walking with children as they take each step on their journey of faith.”
