Creative Bible Reading

About This Course

Creative Bible Reading, led by Rev Dr Mike Parsons, is a six session online course designed to help students examine different ways of reading and engaging with the Bible, and explore how the Bible fits into their spiritual lives. The course draws on his book 'How to Read the Bible:... so that it makes a difference' (BRF, 2020). What does it mean to be a Bible reading disciple of Jesus? An ideal introduction to Bible reading, as well as a challenging refresher. Topics will include:

Linear Model
Martin Luther’s Method
What’s the Big Idea?
Triangular Model
Ignatian Bible Reading
Sorting through the characters

This popular course is video based with optional transcripts and/or subtitles offered for those who benefit. Mike poses questions and sets activities explaining the practice of each topic in the videos and enables you to engage and respond through the learning components which follows including text responses and multiple choice questions. You will need your Bible to hand as you work through the sessions. Mike offers further reading suggestions and copies of his presentation slides as part of the course which may be of interest to participants. When you have completed this course you will receive a completion certificate in acknowledgement of your engagement with the course material. As part of Cliff College's 50% Summer Discount the price for this course is £37.00 (normally £75.00).

The course was originally launched CliffX in October 2020 before Cliff College made the course accessible more widely via TheologyX in July 2022.

How much time will it take?

We estimate each session will take participants 1-2 hours. There are 6 sessions. Some participants may choose to engage with some activities for longer than others and we expect this to be the case.

Do I have to complete this course all at once?

This is a self-paced course. You may choose to do this all at once over a couple of days, or take a session a day or one each week. However it works best for you and fits around your life commitments. Just remember to come back and complete the next session when you're ready. TheologyX will remember where you're up to ready for you to resume upon your return.

Can I take the course with my friend?

You will both need to pay separately and respond via your own devices to have your responses saved and gain your own certificates, but Mike provides options for discussions in the sessions in case you are with someone else and would enjoy conversing together.

When can I start?

You can start anytime. The course was launched on TheologyX in July 2022 and is available for you to start today.

How can I pay for this course?

TheologyX uses Stripe e-commerce to pay, you can pay for this course securely online. You must be signed into your account to connect the payment to your account. When you have paid your course will display on your dashboard for you to access. If you are the card holder paying for someone else's course, they will need to sign in to their account before you process the payment together.
