One in Spirit

About This Course

The United Methodist Council of Bishops holds responsibility for the shepherding of the denomination in ecumenical and interreligious engagement.  To fulfill that calling, one of their ministries involves offering trainings in those areas.  Known as UMEIT, United Methodist Ecumenical and Interreligious Training, comes in several formats.  The format found here is a six-session, self-directed course designed to help church members understand better the global Ecumenical Movement and the involvement of Methodism in that movement.  This “One in Spirit” course helps Methodists gain foundational information to better serve their communities.  Through readings, video, and online conversation, students will learn about Scripture, church history, theology, polity and the Disciplinary guidelines of The United Methodist Church regarding these important callings.  At the end of the study, students are encouraged to request a certificate of completion from the office of the Council of Bishops.
