Dr Ben Pugh – Cliff College
Ben joined Cliff College in Sep 2012 from Mattersey Hall where he was head of Postgraduate Studies.
After an initial career as a full-time artist, Ben worked as an administrator for the Ministry of Defence for a number of years, as well as completing his theological education and being an adjunct lecturer in a number of colleges in UK and India. Ben’s PhD was entitled ‘Power in the Blood: The Significance of the Blood of Jesus to the Spirituality of Early British Pentecostalism and its Precursors’.
He lives in Nottingham with his wife Pearl and three children: Abigail, Gracie and Reuben, where they attend the Eagle’s Nest Church, which is a church that attracts people with little or no Christian background. Ben serves there in preaching and teaching. In that setting he has also collaborated with a recovery expert to deliver a brand new seven-step recovery programme for addictions and other problem behaviours.
At Cliff College, Ben has developed a passion for the inter-disciplinary study of theology and his teaching includes New Testament, Pentecostalism, theology and the arts, philosophy and discipleship. His current research interests are in the interdisciplinary study of the atonement and in the study of the Holy Spirit. He is the co-founder and director at Cliff of the Samuel Chadwick Centre, which is a research centre focusing on the work of the Spirit in the mission of the Church. So far, Ben’s published work in theology applied to a variety of contexts and audiences amounts to over 40 pieces of work altogether. His most recent academic book is his Pictures of Atonement: A New Testament Study (2020).
Approaches for research supervision in anything atonement-related, in pneumatology or in Pentecostal Studies would be welcomed.
